About

Water availability is paramount for socio-economic development, poverty alleviation and human health and well-being. Recognizing this, the G20 initiated an annual series of Water Dialogues to discuss water-themed issues, the results of which are published on this G20 Water Platform.

These discussions on water hold tremendous significance for global development, as the G20 is an international forum that represents and brings together twenty of the world's major economies. Its members account for more than 80 percent of the world’s GDP, 75 percent of global trade and 60 percent of the population of the planet.

The Water Dialogues are an outcome of the G20 Presidency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as Saudi Arabia adopted water as a pivotal topic for its presidency, considering that water is intractably important to life itself, and thus is relevant to all sustainable development initiatives. The first Water Dialogue was held in Saudi Arabia in 2020, a second in Italy in 2021 and having held a third official Water Dialogue under Indonesia’s G20 presidency in 2022, water is now a central theme of the G20 Agenda.

This platform constitutes the main tool for sharing the outcomes of the G20 Water Dialogues among water experts and development practitioners in G20 countries and with their development partners and the world at large. Other pertinent information and research is also welcome for publishing on the platform.
